1. Health & Safety

  • Management of Health & Safety at Work (HASAW) - Writing an effective Risk Assessment
  • Chemical Safety - Chemical Hazard Information & Packaging for Supply regulations (CHIP)
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health regulations (COSHH)
  • Understanding manufacturers' safety data sheets
  • Electrical Safety - P.A.Testing & safe work practices

2. Floor Type Recognition

  • Understanding porous, semi-porous and non-porous floor types
  • Identifying different flooring materials and selecting appropriate maintenance techniques

3. Hard Floor Care

  • Wooden floors - Sanding and sealing. Solvent based & water based wax polishes
  • Resilient floors - Stripping & re-applying emulsion floor polish
  • Stone floors - Diamond grinding, vitrification and polish application
  • Maintenance of polished floors - spray maintenance techniques

4. Carpet Care

  • Regular maintenance and periodic deep cleaning
  • Carpet type identification and selection of appropriate cleaning technique
  • Spot and stain removal

5. Cleaning chemicals

  • Understanding the pH scale and the effects of acids and alkalines
  • Properties of different cleaning agents and how to select the correct ones
  • Dilution rates - the importance of correct dilution rates and how to accurately dilute
